Handpicked Hall @ Grand Arcade, Leeds

Grand Arcade in Leeds City Centre has recently undergone a transformation to the unit that was previously Heaven and Hell to house the new Handpicked Hall. First started up in Ripon and has now branched out into Skipton and Leeds. Handpicked Hall’s philosophy is to gather lots of local independent traders and help them sell their products to the wider market at an affordable price.

I went on its opening day to see what foodie goodies would be on sale, I found 3 fantastic ones!! Firstly Indie Ices, a Roundhay based Ice-cream company run by Mike Tattersall, they make the most amazing award-winning Indian Kulfi’s!! His Tuk Tuk is there every Friday in the Arcade itself.

Next were Thistlemist Farm, a Leeds based company specialising in soups, sauces and pestos all homemade. Their products are great because not only did they smell and taste fantastic, they also cater for lots of dietary requirements, e.g. gluten free, non-dairy and vegan.

We had a couple of tasters of Tomato and Basil then Carrot, Chilli and Orange, they were simply yummy, especially the carrot soup!!! I ended up buying their Patatas Bravas and Carrot, Chilli and Orange soups and cannot wait to try them at home!!! Their menu is full of great flavours, e.g. Chick Pea Piri Piri and Tex Mex.

Last up was That Old Chestnut, The Vegan Bakery, based in Leeds. They had a whole array of delights including Roasted Hazelnut and Chocolate Bundt cake and Columbian Coffee Tiffin. All looked fab and just ready to be eaten with a cuppa, a picnic with friends or a posh afternoon tea!!! IMG_4135 IMG_4133

They also make wedding cakes and can create savoury vegan goodies for events too!!!

In the future there hoping to set up a restaurant on the upstairs level which would be brilliant! It would be great if Handpicked Hall could be a huge success and bring back more independent traders to this part of town. Apart from food traders there’ll also be lots of arts and crafts people selling their goods so head down to the Grand Arcade to support our local traders!!
