I was lucky enough to have a sneak peak into The Tetley. The aim of The Tetley is to be a major venue for contemporary art and learning, and is due to open on the 29th November. A number of local bloggers and tweeters were given the chance to have a look around the building, it was a great opportunity to meet the architect and the team from PSL (Project Space Leeds) the visual arts charity that operates The Tetley.
Not only is the venue going to be used to explore new exhibitions, projects by upcoming artists, and the historical archive of The Tetley, it’s also housing a new Bar & Kitchen on the ground floor of the former Tetley headquarters. Chef Anthony Flinn is back and has been working in a specialist advisory role with The Tetley to develop a menu befitting of the place. It’s going to open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, but also for drinks in their new bar area. All the profits will go directly to supporting the artistic and educational programming at The Tetley.
The new dining room has a lovely old school feel using furniture recycled from the former Tetley HQ, mixed with a newer contemporary design. The bar area has lots of comfy seating, including some gorgeous Chesterfield sofas making it an ideal place for a leisurely drink, a spot of lunch, or for something to eat in the evening.
The menu will contain lots of homely Yorkshire-inspired dishes, using local ingredients where possible and will be reasonably priced. On the menu they’ll have brunch dishes such as the double decker bacon sarnie and Eggs Benedict, and on the all day menu a range of platters, main courses like Toad in the hole with gravy and Seabass with shrimps and kale, meat grills and a good selection of salads and puddings, for example rhubarb crumble and chocolate pots with ginger biscuits. They’ll also be serving afternoon tea which particularly takes my fancy! Wandering around the space soaking up the atmosphere, then having a few leisurely drinks and a relaxing afternoon with yummy scones, cakes and sandwiches with a pot of tea. Maybe even a glass of something fizzy and then possibly staying into the evening. That sounds right up my street!
The building is in the stages of finishing touches but by the 29th I’m sure it’s going to look amazing. Thanks to the people at Culture Vultures for organising this preview!!
The Tetley opens on the 29th November.
